Nephroprotective and antioxidant effects of ethanol extract of Coprinus comatus mushroom fruit-bodies on streptozotocin-induced diabetic rat models

Abstract Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disease with an increasing prevalence. An increase in free radicals and AGEs can cause glomerular cell damage which lead to inflammation DM nephropathy. WHO has recommended treatment by using herbal medicines that have minimal side effects lot of biological activity prevent complications. Coprinus comatus (O.F. Mull.) known as immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory antidiabetic agent. The research used C. cultivated Cianjur. basidiome this mushroom slightly oval small height 8-12 cm thickness 2-3 cm. included six groups male Wistar rats: Group 1 received no treatment, Groups 2–6 were administered 45 mg/kg BW streptozotocin once, 3 was metformin, 4, 5, 6 250, 500, 750 fruit body ethanol extract respectively for 14 days. superoxide dismutase (SOD), malondialdehyde (MDA), hepcidin ?2 microglobulin (B2M) levels evaluated. Data analyzed analysis variance Duncan’s multiple-range tests. results showed dose 500 mg effective SOD decreasing hepcidin, B2M MDA levels.
